"Major Problem Of Fewa Lake:Decreasing Depth And Increasing Level Of Jalkumbhi"
Pokhara is the major tourism sector of Nepal. It’s famous for its natural beauties. Lakes, caves, springs, and the beautiful and greenery hills along with the heart touching mountains that can be viewed from Pokhara are the major attraction for all those staying here or visiting Pokhara.Fewa Lake is one of the main attractions of Pokhara.



But this beautiful lake is going through a serious problem called the “Jaal Kumbhi” which is an aquatic plant that floats over the water. Today we can hardly view the water on the lake. It’s completely green all over the lake and its affecting all the people around who make their livelihood from lake i.e. the boaters. It’s completely covered with that aquatic plant so the boaters can hardly row their boat. The shore is so completely covered with Jaal Kumbhi that people can walk over the lake. Though the greenery is adding some beauty but is adversely affecting the tourism sector. We can hardly see any people boating here these days.

Pollution was always a great problem of the lake. The Pokhareli are always worried about the decreasing depth of the lake. The pollution raised due to the restaurants and the hotels near by and

The people of the surrounding is always affecting on the purity and the pollution factor. In fact the people mostly benefited are the locals but they are the most responsible for this degradation of the beauty of the lake. The main problem in Nepal is that the people here think every thing are to be solved by the government they don’t take care about the things that directly are related to them.

Now talking about Jaal Kumbhi, in previous years the government and the locals i.e. the hotel associations and the boaters associations used to clean up the Jaal Kumbhi but this time no one are showing their interest on cleaning the lake. The thing I can understand is why the locals are waiting for government always for everything, coz if the hotel association and the boaters association combine to activate their man powers they can easily remove all the Jaal Kumbhi within a week.

Well among so many demerits the plant creating, one thing it benefits is that it cleans the water. Well the water of the Fewa Lake is so polluted that aquatic animals and plants are unable to survive here. So we hope it cleans the water and make it echo friendly for the plants and animals of the lake.

Most importantly besides thinking about how to remove Jaal Kumbhi it’s now time to think how we can completely eradicate this plant from growing. Well some might say that completely eradicating a species is not a wise thought but its better to eradicate one rather then destroying lots of others.

Let’s hope in near future we can visit a fresh and clean lake with no disturbance over water while boating. And wish all the locals will give their 100 % in cleaning and conserving the lake, the beauty of Pokhara.
